Monaco Pavilion, Expo 2025 Osaka
No repeat unit, and no straight line to set out from.
What the geometry demanded
A circular plan removes every shortcut an interior relies on. No repeat units, no standard sheet sizes, and no straight line to set out from.
An error at the start of a curve does not stay where it was made. It accumulates around the circumference and arrives back, visibly, at the point where it began.
We held setting out from a single control point throughout, and produced components to survey rather than to nominal dimensions. Curved joinery at the bar and reception was wrapped in fine metal mesh; the sculpted freeform ceiling carries its lighting concealed between layers.

Where we met this before

Portugal Pavilion
A rope envelope of 9,972 elements weighed 55 tonnes and had to perform as a structure. We resolved it as one, and opened on the date.

France Pavilion
The garden design was still settling four months before opening. We held manufacturing capacity open so fabrication could begin the day it released.

Oman Pavilion
A timber pavilion designed abroad and built in Japan to Japanese structural and fire requirements.
